"The response to Dan's message
was just amazing. Praise God!"
Pastor Martin Sempra
Makerere University Pastor |
I am not sure I have ever seen so
much joy on the faces of brothers and sisters in Christ as I recently
did in Kampala, Uganda. I am reminded of the words in Psalms 126, "Those
who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping
carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves
with him." God did a mighty work on the university campuses, much to the
delight of those who had prayed for such a day and had worked to
mobilize the students. God truly did "Ignite the Fire"! Over the four
nights, God poured out His love and power and touched the lives of the
future leaders of Uganda.
Apollo Kagwa was used of the Lord
to help coordinate all four campuses for us. He expressed his deep sense
of joy by saying, "What I am excited about is to see the big number of
students coming to Christ. You know, being at the university, some think
you are intellectual and you are sharp and these things of Jesus are for
those who are mediocre. But when you see the intellectuals coming to
Christ, to me that's a joy! When we see them coming to Christ we know
that our country is changing!"
Natalie Wrisa, another student
and volunteer for "Ignite the Fire" said, "It has been gorgeous and it
has really been amazing because we did not expect such a big number each
night. We really expected a much smaller number to give their lives to
Christ, but very many people came to give their lives to Christ."
Praise the Lord that each night
thousands came out to the grounds on the campuses to hear the bands, see
the dancers, and hear that Jesus Christ died for them. We kicked off
"Ignite the Fire" at Kampala International University, a Muslim
university and the toughest campus of all! To God be the glory, the
Spirit moved with power and we saw scores of students come forward to
confess Christ! Seeing the response of the crowd after the invitation
was given, the campus pastor walked around with a smile saying, "I just
can't believe it, I just can't believe it." To say the least, that
brother was committed to following up with the new student believers.
There was an amazing spirit of
conviction that fell on these students. Silvia Nambia said that she came
just to check out the meeting. Then as she heard the message she said,
"So I came and I heard the message and it was something convicting and I
gave my life to Christ. Now I am relieved, like a huge burden has been
carried off my shoulders." Another young man by the name of Constan was
convicted of womanizing and drinking. He said he came onto the grass not
being born again, but was leaving with Jesus in his heart. He was quite
direct when he said "So tonight I've changed and I feel my heart is very
firm and I know I will continue with God. I have taken Jesus into my
heart."
Just as there was joy in those
who had prayed and worked for this event, there was joy in the hearts of
those who responded to Jesus Christ knocking at the door of their
hearts. Angela Flavia told us, "I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal
Savior, so now I am fine and excited, even I have a joy in my heart. Now
I will be different. I will change my style of talking, just everything.
Before I had never gone to any church and I used to go to parties all
the time. But tomorrow I will be going to church!"
Pastor Martin Simpra is the
campus pastor at the Ugandan flagship Makerere University with over
40,000 students. He is a man who is passionate about students and about
Jesus. Martin was very impressed with the work that God did. "Dan's
message was very simple, very clear, and very friendly. I thought the
response of the people was really amazing. Reaching college students is
a very strategic way of reaching nations for Christ. These are the
people who will become lawyers, doctors, teachers, and presidential
advisors. Praise God!"
As you know my friends, "Ignite
the Fire" was something we were not planning on doing a few months ago.
God brought it to us and you made it happen! I think Apollo Kagwa said
it best, "I want to say we are so grateful for everyone who has
supported this ministry. All of these great numbers who have come to
accept Christ is because you have supported EMM."
Once again, I want to thank you
for your part in changing lives for eternity! Your prayers and your
gifts have truly "Ignited the Fire!"
With Eternity In Mind,

Dan
